CPN heading to northeast for 31st mall

Central Pattana (CPN), the retail property development arm of Central Group, will open its 31st shopping mall, CentralPlaza Nakhonratchasima, on November 3.

It is part of a THB10.6 billion (US$320 million) mixed-use project also comprising a hotel, convention centre, condominiums, lifestyle outdoor market and a public park. The convention centre is scheduled to open on the same day, while the other components are expected to be completed in the next few years.

CPN COO Pakorn Parthanapa says the mall will have a floor area of more than 355,000sqm with magnets including B2S, Central Department Store, Power Buy, SFX Cinema, SuperSports and Tops Superstore.

About 500 apparel retailers and restaurants have indicated their interest in opening at the mall, he says.

Set to make their debut are Korean restaurants Bonchon Chicken and RedSun Thailand Tokpokki together with Japanese drugstore chain Matsumoto Kiyoshi.

Pakorn says 3000sqm of the mall will be an outdoor water park, while another 12,000sqm will offer the convention venue and an events space.

The project targets more than 2.63 million residents in a 90km radius, and more than 4 million of people living in nearby provinces including Buri Ram, Chaiyaphum and Surin. CPN also hopes the mall will also attract some of the 7 million tourists who visit the area each year.

Nakhon Ratchasima is a gateway to 20 provinces in Thailand’s northeast region.
